About the role

Hood River Electric & Internet Co-op (HR Co-op) is hiring aJourneyman Lineman. This is a union position, part of IBEW Local 125. Pay Rate$71.44 per hour Date PostedSeptember 30, 2026
Job Summary: Hood River Electric & Internet Co-op is looking for a Journeyman Lineman to join our operations crew in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. In this role, you'll construct, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines and associated equipment. You'll also work with fiber optic cables, trim trees, and assist with substation maintenance and switching. Our system includes 4 miles of electric transmission and 276 miles of distribution, with 150 miles overhead and the remainder underground. We serve members from three substations: two co-op-owned and one BPA substation from which we take service. This is a hands-on position on a small crew where versatility matters. If you take pride in keeping the lights on and doing the job safely, you'll fit right in with our team. Our linemen work across electric, fiber, and vegetation duties, and we're looking for someone who sees that variety as a strength, not a burden. Overtime is typically modest, averaging around 100-150 hours per year, so this role is well-suited for someone who values work-life balance alongside meaningful, skilled work. The position includes an on-call rotation with weekend and evening emergency response. Candidates must have completed an approved lineman apprenticeship program and hold a valid Class A driver's license with air brakes. Residency within a 30-minute drive of our office in Hood River is required within six months of hire. First Aid/CPR, Flagger, and Forklift certifications are required and must be obtained within the first year of hire if not already held. Regular work hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. For a Journeyman Lineman, this position also includes about 10 weeks per year of paid on-call rotation, during which time the incumbent will respond to weekend and evening outages or emergencies. During on-call periods, the incumbent must be available to respond within 30 minutes. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
