DOMESTIC ABUSE COUNCIL OF VOLUSIA COUNTY INC is a nonprofit organization based in Daytona Beach, Florida, dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. The organization provides advocacy, education, and resources to help community members access safety, stability, and long-term healing. Team members collaborate with local partners and service providers to ensure that survivors receive comprehensive support. The council values compassion, confidentiality, and empowerment in all of its services and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one academic advising and guidance through virtual meetings, phone, email, and other communication platforms. Help students develop individualized academic plans aligned with their educational and career goals. Explain degree requirements, course selections, academic policies, and graduation requirements. Monitor student progress and proactively identify students who may need additional support. Connect students with appropriate academic, career, financial, tutoring, and student-support resources. Maintain accurate and confidential student records and advising notes.
Qualifications:
Strong Academic Advising and Education skills to support planning, course selection, and goal setting. Student Counseling and Career Counseling skills to address personal, academic, and professional development needs. Effective Communication skills, including active listening, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to explain complex information simply. Experience or training in trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and use digital tools for advising and record-keeping. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; relevant certifications or graduate studies are a plus. Prior experience in academic advising, student services, or social services, ideally within nonprofit or community-based organizations.
