Job Title: Electromechanical Engineer Senior III
Location: Sunnyvale, CA/ Highlands Ranch, Colorado/ King of Prussia, Pennsylvania
Type of Role: Full Time/ Direct Hire
Pay:
$95,000- $178,100POSITION OVERVIEW:We are seeking a skilled PCB Design Engineer to support the development of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs for a wide range of space applications. This role involves designing boards ranging from two-layer quick-turn prototypes to space-qualified, high-layer-count rigid and rigid-flex backplanes incorporating blind and buried. Designs may include high-speed, high-power, and radio frequency (RF) applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing design inputs, coordinating design reviews throughout the development lifecycle, and supporting the formal engineering release process. This position requires strong technical expertise in PCB design, familiarity with electronics development standards, and the ability to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and external vendor teams. This role also involves using and improving commercial and custom engineering tools. Experience with scripting, software automation, and process optimization is an advantage.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Design and develop PCBs and circuit card assemblies (CCAs) for space applications, including rigid and rigid-flex designs. Support the development of two-layer prototype boards, high-layer-count backplanes, and complex high-speed, high-power, and RF designs. Review design inputs and requirements before transitioning projects into the design process. Facilitate and schedule design reviews throughout the development lifecycle. Prepare, review, and maintain PCB layouts, assembly drawings, technical documentation, and engineering release packages. Ensure PCB designs comply with applicable drafting standards, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements, electronics standards, and engineering specifications. Support PCB fabrication, assembly, testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and modification activities. Collaborate with internal engineering and manufacturing teams and external vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure design manufacturability. Communicate the technical rationale for design decisions and demonstrate how designs meet specified requirements through written documentation and verbal presentations. Utilize electronic design automation (EDA) tools, including Siemens Xpedition and Zuken CR-8000, to support PCB design and development. Work with tools supporting signal integrity analysis, documentation control, and design inspection. Identify opportunities to improve electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) processes. Apply scripting languages, such as Python and VBScript, to automate engineering workflows and enhance existing tool capabilities. Use AI prompting techniques to support engineering tasks, improve productivity, and optimize technical workflows. Perform additional engineering duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience and combined education. Five to nine years of relevant professional experience. Demonstrated experience in PCB design, fabrication, or assembly for rigid and rigid-flex circuit card assemblies. Familiarity with the electronics design and development lifecycle. Experience using one or more major EDA tools, such as Siemens Xpedition, Cadence, Altium, or Zuken. Ability to interpret and review PCB layouts, assembly drawings, drafting standards, geometric tolerancing requirements, and engineering change management and release packages. Working knowledge of applicable electronics design, fabrication, and assembly standards and processes. Ability to explain technical design decisions and demonstrate compliance with specified requirements, both verbally and in writing. Strong written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. U.S. citizenship is required. An active security clearance is not required.
DESIRED SKILLS:
Experience working with external PCB vendors and internal manufacturing teams. Experience designing flex, rigid-flex, high-speed, high-power, or RF PCBs and CCAs. Knowledge of IPC standards, including IPC-2221, IPC-2222, IPC-2223, IPC-6012, IPC-6013, and IPC-600.Experience using Siemens Xpedition and Siemens EDM.Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python and VBScript, for engineering tools and workflow automation. Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues within enterprise engineering environments. Ability to analyze existing ECAD and PLM processes and recommend opportunities for optimization. Familiarity with signal integrity analysis, engineering documentation control, and PCB inspection tools. Experience applying AI prompting techniques to engineering design, documentation, automation, and problem-solving tasks. The Global Edge Consultants, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
