FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYDEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGIOUS STUDIESPart-Time Lecturer Pool PositionPOSITION AVAILABLEOne or more temporary, part-timelecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered forappointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027. THE DEPARTMENTThe Department of Philosophy &Religious Studies presently consists of 5 tenured and tenure-trackfaculty and offers an undergraduate program leading to the B.A. inPhilosophy (with Concentrations in Philosophy and ReligiousStudies) and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Thedepartment has approximately 30 majors and 10 minors, and offers awide variety of general education courses. DUTIES OF THE POSITIONTeaching one or more of a varietyof courses, which may include: Workshop in Clear Thinking, Introduction to Logic, and lower-division philosophy coursesincorporated in general education clusters; and upper-divisioncourses in the areas of the History of Philosophy, ReligiousStudies, Human Rights and Social Justice, Philosophy of Science, and Applied Ethics. Teaching assignments include office hours formentoring students. Please note that teaching assignments atCalifornia State University, East Bay may include courses at theHayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy andexpectation of the California State University is that all facultymembers will perform all of their duties within the state ofCalifornia. RANK AND SALARYLecturer. Salary is dependent uponeducational preparation and experience. Position appointment issubject to budgetary authorization. Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677 Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224 Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523 Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211 The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum ofthe appropriate range, commensurate with education andexperience. DATE OF APPOINTMENTFall Semester begins August 17, 2026; Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have the Ph.D. inPhilosophy or Religious Studies or equivalent (or be near completion) and some teaching experience, evidence of activeresearch or scholarship (or progress towards completingdissertation) and ability to teach diverse student body.
