About the role
Special Education Resource TeacherUSD 232 welcomes approximately 7,500 students each day (Early Childhood through grade 12) at 13 campuses, with seven elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and Cedar Trails Exploration Center. Our district encompasses an area of nearly 100 square miles in northwest Johnson County and draws from the communities of De Soto, Shawnee, Lenexa, a portion of Olathe, and unincorporated areas of the county. The Special Education Teacher will develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluate and assess student progress as related to Individualized Educational Program (IEP) goals; work with other special education staff to support all areas of a student's IEP, and function as the case manager to assigned students. Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals on a student's IEP.Provide instruction, support and assistance with students' adaptive and daily living skills, as needed, including toileting, personal hygiene, feeding, dressing, mobility and other self-care needs, while promoting student dignity, safety and independence. Monitors and assesses student progress on IEP goals. Completes all required district and state reporting requirements, such as but not limited to, the DLM when appropriate. Develops and implements annual IEP for students to include present level of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals, and special education and related services required to meet those goals. Schedules IEP meetings and works collaboratively with buildings teams in delivering all required services within the student's IEP.Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications and accommodations, behavior support, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the unique learning needs of students with disabilities. Serves as the primary contact for the parent. Provides direct supervision and evaluation of paraeducators as assigned. Completes all required district and state reporting requirements.
