Job Description: OVERVIEWAn effective Product Engineer holds safety as a value, demonstrating safe work practices in all they do and never hesitating to flag an unsafe situation. Under general direction, this role organizes and leads tooling and product design activities and related team activity with minimal supervision across all assigned projects, communicating regularly with stakeholders on project status and strategy.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead project teams for assigned product and/or tooling projects with minimal supervision. Coordinate required resources, satisfy all deliverables, and adhere to established procedures while hitting schedule and cost objectives. Lead sustaining engineering projects on existing products and tooling that improve design, manufacturability, performance, or cost. Lead the end-of-life process for products selected for obsolescence. Coordinate with affected business units, support services, and plant services to establish appropriate equipment and manufacturing methods to meet product specifications and forecast requirements. Work with other tool engineers and tool makers to implement acceptable part design adjustments that optimize tool design. Use CAD software to develop solid models and detail drawings, and properly maintain the CAD system. Complete financial analysis/ROI reports as needed for projects. Conduct mold flow analysis, FEA simulations, design reviews, and functional testing as needed for assigned projects. Complete DFMEAs for projects and/or significant changes to existing products. Ensure the ERP system is properly set up and maintained for assigned projects across modules such as MRO, BOM, and Project Manager. Take initiative to resolve problems once identified and follow up on the effectiveness of the resolution after implementation. Review detail drawings created by other sources (in-house or outside design firms) for accuracy and application. Lead or participate in continuous improvement teams. Report regularly on the status of assigned projects.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES: Able to work with others in a team atmosphere, with strong attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with excellent planning and organizational skills. Flexible with work schedules, including longer hours as required. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and actively participates in training. Able to stay multi-observant and prioritize issues, with good critical thinking and decision-making abilities. Concentrated attention and coordination to analyze product drawings, and comfort using computer-aided drafting and design systems to create detailed drawings and designs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related field preferred. Proficiency in Solid Works and other relevant engineering software. Strong understanding of engineering principles and design fundamentals. Previous product design or tool design experience. Background in injection and custom molding organizations. Four years of related experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls, reach and lift with hands and arms, and talk, see, and hear. Primarily an office-based role with occasional repetitive tasks; continuous use of hands and wrists; ability to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally; occasional bending, stooping, and squatting. May require availability for extended hours or emergency situations as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Primarily an office environment with occasional travel through the production area. Safety glasses, closed-toe shoes, and hearing protection may be required in production areas based on standard safety PPE requirements.
