Contract: 12 months initially

We are supporting a major pharmaceutical company on a large-scale programme and are looking for an experienced Warehouse Design Lead to take ownership of the development and coordination of warehouse design. This is a senior design-focused position requiring someone who has previously led warehouse design development, rather than purely project-managed warehouse construction.
Description:
You will lead warehouse design from concept through detailed design and into construction support, working closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Automation and external A&E partners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead development of warehouse design concepts, layouts and specifications
- Coordinate design through conceptual, basic and detailed design phases
- Develop and optimise layouts for receiving, storage and shipping operations
- Design requirements for cold storage, flammable storage, quarantine, sampling and inspection areas
- Optimise the flow of materials, personnel and equipment
- Ensure warehouse design integrates effectively with the wider site infrastructure and facility strategy
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and external A&E/design partners
- Incorporate automation readiness into warehouse layouts
- Work alongside automation teams on ASRS, AGVs, conveyors and pallet handling systems
- Support design schedules, budgets, constructability reviews and design risk management
- Provide design support throughout construction, commissioning and qualification
- Ensure designs meet GMP, safety, regulatory and corporate engineering standards
Requirements:
- 8+ years' experience within industrial, pharmaceutical or large-scale facility design
- Strong hands-on experience leading warehouse or logistics facility design
- Demonstrable experience developing warehouse concepts, layouts and specifications
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and A&E firms
- Strong understanding of material handling and warehouse flow optimisation
- Experience with warehouse automation such as ASRS, AGVs, robotics or automated material handling systemshighly desirable
- Pharmaceutical, biotech or other GMP/regulated industry experience preferred
- Experience on major capital projects within EPCM or Design-Build environments beneficial
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Supply Chain or a related discipline
Arrangements:
The position can be based remotely anywhere in the US, however frequent travel to the project site will be required, particularly for site evaluations, design coordination and key project phases.
This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role on a major pharmaceutical capital programme with significant responsibility for the warehouse design strategy and its delivery from concept through execution.
