About the role
As part of the executive leadership team atUnited Cerebral Palsy of Southern Arizona, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) partners with the CEO and COO to set the organization's financial direction and uphold day-to-day fiscal integrity. This onsite role inTucson, AZprovides strategic financial leadership for a nonprofit with a$50M annual budget, with accountability spanning compliance, reporting, and core finance operations.
Role Overview:
The CFO leads financial strategy and ensures transparent, compliant operations across accounting, payroll, billing, banking, and audit readiness. The position also provides decision support to leadership and the Board by analyzing financial implications for strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with UCPSA's mission and long-term goals.
- Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for a$50M annual budget .Ensure compliance withGAAP , IRS regulations, nonprofit standards, and federal and state payroll laws.
- Oversee payroll operations for1,800 employees .Oversee billing operations, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing while maintaining compliance.
- Oversee 401(k) plan administration .Oversee banking and banking operations, including account management, treasury functions, and banking relationships.
- Monitor cash flow, investments, and risk management strategies.
- Oversee the annual audit and coordinate audit preparation.
- Prepare and present financial reports to the
- BoardandFinance Committee .Work closely with the Finance Committee on budgeting and financial planning.
- Partner with the Controller to support leadership goals and continuous improvement in the department.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of accounting, payroll, and billing software, ensuring systems are effectively used.
- Lead transitions to new accounting, billing, and payroll systems, including planning, implementation, and staff training.
- Advise the CEO and Board on the financial implications of strategic decisions.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to support system utilization and ongoing process improvements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degreein accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA preferred .7-10+ yearsof progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Will consider anaudit managerin public accounting with nonprofit audit experience.
- Strong knowledge ofnonprofit GAAP, including revenue recognition and functional expense reporting, payroll laws, and audit coordination.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting legal contracts, commercial leases, and financing documents.
- Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial modeling.
- Demonstrated experience presenting financial information to a Board of Directors and a Finance Committee.
- Proficiency with
- Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis onExcel, Word, and Outlook .Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and strong report writing abilities.
- Customer service mindset and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience managing 401(k) plan administration .Experience overseeingbilling operationsand reimbursement compliance.
- Experience overseeingbanking operations, treasury management, and bank relationships.
- Proficient in accounting, payroll, and billing software, with proven experience transitioning systems.
