Zoning Administrative Assistant Supervision Received: Zoning Enforcement Officer Supervision Exercised: None
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week (Monday Thursday)
Salary: $25 - $30 an hour (Part time)
Primary Function: Facilitate service to the public regarding various zoning permits, and other general inquiries. Provide clerical support to the zoning enforcement officer.
Specific Duties:
  • Answer telephones and screen calls.
  • Handles administrative and clerical operations of the zoning department document management, scheduling, and correspondence.
  • Search department records and make copies upon requests from the homeowners, realtors, attorneys, banks, etc.
  • Provide necessary direction to public in proceeding through zoning application process.
  • Collect fees and provide revenue collection reports for Zoning Department to Finance, Assessor and Selectmen as necessary.
  • Review and accept permit applications from the public.
  • Accept applications for submission to Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commissions as authorized.
  • Enter permit application into software system to ensure appropriate recording and implementation.
  • Coordinates with the Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals part-time secretaries to prepare meeting agendas and distribute required legal notices for public hearings
  • Keep track of departmental supplies and office equipment. Order supplies as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications: High School diploma. Two years' experience in a clerical/secretarial position. Excellent administrative, secretarial and organizational skills. Excellent communication and computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to read and understand land use regulations, maps, plans and drawings, and be able to explain them to the public.
