About the role

Valley Equine Reproduction is seeking anexperienced horse personto join our mare team in Stephenville, Texas. This position works primarily with recipient mares and weanlings, supporting the daily movement, handling and care of horses throughout the facility. In addition to bringing mares to and from turnout and assisting with the daily flow of the breeding barn, this role will help with handling recipient mares, halter breaking weanlings and establishing good basic ground manners in young horses. The ideal candidate has a strong equine background, understands safe and effective horse handling, and is confident working with both mature mares and young horses. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced breeding operation and requires someone who can work efficiently, recognize equine behavior and adjust their handling approach appropriately for each horse. Catch, lead, and move recipient mares between pastures, barns and breeding areas Maintain organized movement of mares to support daily breeding and veterinary schedules Assist veterinarians, farriers, and the mare management team during procedures Assist with administering medications as directed Halter break weanlings and reinforce basic leading, tying and handling skills Handle young horses safely and consistently Groom, wash and provide general care for mares and weanlings as needed Help, maintain clean, organized barns and horse-handling areas Assist with other mare barn and horse-care responsibilities as needed Strong prior horse-handling experience required Experience working with recipient mares, broodmares or within a breeding operation preferred Experience halter breaking or starting young horses on the ground throughout the facility Experience with hauling and transporting horses on the ground strongly preferred Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and cover significant ground throughout the facility. Experience with hauling and transporting horses is advantageous Confident handling horses with varying temperaments and levels of experience Good understanding of equine behavior and safe handling practices Comfortable working both independently and within a team environment with both the mare and veterinary teams Dependable, punctual and attentive to details
