About the role
The Opportunity:
Meet Life Sciences is supporting an emerging precision-oncology medical device company in San Diego seeking a Molecular Laboratory Technician for flexible, part-time work processing human clinical specimens. This is a hands-on laboratory position focused on specimen preparation, nucleic acid extraction and DNA quantification. The opportunity may be particularly attractive to molecular laboratory professionals, research associates, clinical laboratory professionals, or experienced technicians looking for supplemental part-time work. The position is fully onsite in San Diego and is expected to initially average approximately 15 hours per week, with scheduling based on specimen volume and operational needs. Some flexibility for shorter-notice assignments may occasionally be required, and there is potential for hours to increase as specimen volume grows.
Responsibilities:
Receive, accession, label and track human clinical specimens Perform DNA/RNA extraction and purification Perform nucleic acid purification using the King Fisher Apex or similar automated extraction platforms Quantify extracted DNA using Qubit or comparable methods Perform micro pipetting, aliquoting, centrifugation and sample transfers Prepare reagents, buffers, consumables and sample plates Store DNA, RNA and other specimen materials under defined conditions Maintain accurate sample-tracking, chain-of-custody and laboratory records Follow SOPs, quality-control requirements and contamination-prevention practices Maintain laboratory equipment and clean work areas Document specimen discrepancies, equipment issues and procedural deviations
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or formal training in molecular biology, biotechnology, clinical laboratory science, biochemistry or a related field Hands-on DNA and/or RNA extraction experience Strong micro pipetting skills and experience handling biological specimens Experience with King Fisher or another automated magnetic-bead nucleic acid purification platform preferred Experience with Qubit or comparable DNA quantification methods preferred Familiarity with clinical specimens, accessioning and sample tracking Understanding of contamination-control practices in a molecular laboratory environment California CLS designation/licensure is a plus Ability to work independently and follow detailed procedures consistently Schedule Part-time, approximately 15 hours/week initially Fully onsite in San Diego Flexible scheduling based on specimen volume Potential for additional hours as operations grow About the Work You'll be supporting a growing precision-oncology company developing technology designed to recover additional biological specimen material during needle biopsy procedures. The laboratory work focuses on processing those specimens and recovering DNA/RNA that can support downstream molecular testing and sequencing.
