Role Description: The Lending Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Danville, VA, responsible for supporting members throughout the lending process. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with members to understand their financial needs, explaining loan options, and assisting with loan applications and documentation. The role involves reviewing and verifying financial information, performing basic underwriting functions, and ensuring loans comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The Lending Specialist communicates clearly with members, provides excellent customer service, and collaborates with colleagues to ensure timely loan decisions and smooth loan closings. This position also includes maintaining accurate records, using lending and core banking systems, and contributing to member education on responsible borrowing and credit management.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong Communication and Customer Service skills to interact effectively with members and team members. Candidates should possess solid Underwriting and Loans knowledge to evaluate applications, assess risk, and structure appropriate loan products. Candidates should possess foundational Finance skills to interpret financial data and support informed lending decisions. Candidates should have proficiency with computers and banking systems, including data entry, document management, and basic office software. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, high ethical standards, and the ability to follow regulatory and institutional lending guidelines. Prior experience in credit unions, banks, or consumer lending is beneficial; relevant coursework or a degree in business, finance, or a related field is a plus. Candidates should be able to work on-site in Danville, VA, manage multiple tasks, and contribute positively to a team-oriented, member-focused environment.
