LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established nonprofit organization that is looking to bring on an Associate Vice President of Finance to its growing leadership team. This is a highly visible role that will serve as the right hand to the CFO, providing leadership across both Accounting and FP&A/financial planning functions. The Associate VP will oversee the organization’s core finance operations while also partnering with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial strategy, and long-term planning. Key Responsibilities: Provide leadership and oversight across the organization’s accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, procurement, and broader finance operations. Lead and develop the Finance team, establishing priorities, strengthening processes, promoting cross-training, and fostering a collaborative and accountable environment. Partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership on annual budgeting, multi-year financial planning, forecasting, scenario modeling, and strategic financial initiatives. Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial statement preparation, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and management reporting. Develop meaningful budget-to-actual analysis, financial forecasts, trend reporting, and management dashboards to identify risks, opportunities, and areas requiring action. Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable nonprofit, regulatory, and institutional requirements. Coordinate financial activities related to the external audit, tax and regulatory filings, grants, accreditation requirements, and other organizational reporting needs. Serve as a strategic finance partner to academic and administrative leadership, helping department leaders better understand financial performance, budgets, and resource allocation. Support cash flow and liquidity management, banking administration, debt-related activity, and other treasury functions in partnership with the CFO.Prepare financial analyses and business cases for new programs, strategic partnerships, major contracts, investments, and other organizational initiatives. Drive continuous improvement across Finance through process redesign, automation, system enhancements, improved reporting, and stronger data integrity. Oversee procurement and purchasing practices with an emphasis on appropriate controls, vendor management, cost effectiveness, and process consistency. Assist with the preparation of financial information and presentations for executive leadership, Board/committee meetings, and other key stakeholders. Participate in cross-functional initiatives and special projects involving financial strategy, risk management, and organizational planning.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline required. Progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, ideally within a nonprofit, higher education, or similarly complex organization. Strong foundation across both Accounting and FP&A, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and long-range financial planning. Demonstrated experience leading and developing finance/accounting professionals. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, audit processes, and financial reporting. Ability to work effectively with senior executives and non-finance leaders and translate complex financial information into actionable business insights. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day financial operations. CPA and/or advanced degree strongly preferred
