Job Description: UHY is partnering with our client to identify an experienced Payroll Director for a full-time, direct-hire opportunity in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is a hybrid role requiring two days onsite and three days remote each week. The successful candidate will join a large, complex organization and work closely with an established payroll, HR and finance team. The Payroll Director will provide hands-on leadership and execution across high-volume payroll operations, with Workday as a core requirement. This role requires an experienced payroll professional who can quickly assess current processes, maintain accurate and timely payroll delivery, resolve complex issues, strengthen controls and compliance, and improve payroll workflows in a large-enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and execute end-to-end payroll operations for a large, complex workforce, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and issue resolution. Own Workday-based payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations, controls and operational troubleshooting. Review payroll calculations, adjustments, deductions, garnishments, taxes and other payroll activity for accuracy and compliance. Manage payroll reconciliations and partner with accounting to support payroll-related journal entries, general ledger activity and period-end close requirements. Assess payroll controls, documentation and approval workflows; identify gaps and implement practical improvements that strengthen accuracy and compliance. Partner with HR, Finance, IT and other stakeholders to resolve payroll issues, support system/process changes and maintain effective data flows. Develop and monitor payroll metrics, exception reporting and recurring review procedures appropriate for a large-enterprise environment. Document key processes, improve recurring payroll workflows and help establish sustainable practices across the payroll organization.
Skills And Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business or a related field.10+ years of progressive payroll experience with substantial hands-on responsibility for complex, high-volume payroll operations. Hands-on Workday payroll experience is required, including payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations and issue resolution. Experience supporting Fortune 500 or similarly large, complex enterprise organizations is required. Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, controls, payroll taxes, deductions and related federal, state and local requirements. Demonstrated ability to enter an established environment, assess issues quickly, establish priorities and execute critical payroll work with limited ramp-up. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with payroll platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Dayforce or comparable systems; Workday experience is required. Strong communication and collaboration skills across HR, Finance, IT and leadership teams, with the ability to operate effectively in a large, complex organization.
