About the role

We're partnering with an innovative medical device company to hire a hands‑on Metrologist / CMM Programmer to support its NPI Engineering and Product Development team. This is a 12‑month contract with strong potential for extension or conversion. This role requires someone who can independently set up and program CMMs for new parts — not simply operate a CMM or run existing inspection programs.
Location: Calabasas, CA – 100% Onsite
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Contract: 12 months, with potential for extension or conversion
Responsibilities: Independently set up and program CMMs for new components and inspection requirements Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional tolerances, and specifications to establish appropriate measurement parameters Develop CMM inspection programs and measurement strategies for new parts, prototypes, and NPI/Product Development Perform dimensional, incoming/receiving, component, First Article, and other precision inspections Partner closely with NPI Engineering, Product Development, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to develop inspection and measurement methods for new products Support advanced metrology and measurement systems Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R Support calibration and preventive maintenance of inspection and measurement equipment Develop and maintain inspection procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and measurement documentation Train inspectors on established CMM programs, measurement methods, and inspection equipment Ensure measurement systems and inspection processes are accurate, repeatable, and compliant with applicable quality standards Required Qualifications Strong hands‑on CMM programming and setup experience Ability to independently create CMM programs for new parts, rather than only operating equipment or running existing programs Strong knowledge of GD&T and ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings Experience establishing measurement parameters and inspection strategies based on part drawings and tolerances Experience with precision measurement and inspection equipment Knowledge of calibration, measurement systems, MSA, and Gage R&R Strong documentation and inspection procedure/work instruction development skills Ability to clearly communicate technical CMM programming and GD&T experience Strong cross‑functional communication skills with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and inspection teams CMM Experience Experience with any CMM platform is welcome. Mitutoyo experience is not required. Relevant experience may include platforms/software such as Zeiss, Brown & Sharpe, Keyence, FARO, PC‑DMIS, Calypso, Verisurf, MCOSMOS, or similar systems. Preferred Medical device, aerospace, or other highly regulated precision manufacturing experience Experience supporting NPI or Product Development engineering Optical/vision inspection system experience ASQ, metrology, MSA, or related quality certifications
Please note: This position requires demonstrated hands‑on CMM programming and setup experience.
