A well-established specialty insurance organization is building out its accounting leadership team and seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee a large insurance accounting function. Reporting into senior finance leadership, this position combines people leadership, technical accounting, month-end close ownership, statutory reporting, and process improvement initiatives. The organization offers a collaborative culture, strong leadership, a stable business model, and a reputation for investing in employee development. This role is ideal for an insurance accounting professional who enjoys leading teams, developing staff, improving processes, and operating as a key contributor within a growing finance organization.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a team of supervisors, senior accountants, and staff accountants
- Own monthly close activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting processes
- Oversee preparation and review of statutory reporting and regulatory filings
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations and review unusual transactions and account activity
- Partner with internal stakeholders on accounting projects and business initiatives
- Support annual audits and quarterly reviews
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
- Drive automation and process improvement efforts to increase efficiency
- Mentor team members and support their professional development
- Ensure accurate GAAP reporting and regulatory compliance
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related discipline 3+ years property & casualty insurance / reinsurance experienceExperience with both GAAP and statutory accounting
- Demonstrated ownership of month-end close and financial reporting processes
- Prior management experience leading accounting teams
- Strong understanding of account reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with insurance accounting systems and reporting tools
- Process improvement, automation, or workflow optimization experienceExperience supporting audits and regulatory reporting requirements

Compensation
Base salary: $120,000-$140,00010% annual bonus opportunity
