Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Tax Manager to support the tax needs of a high-net-worth athlete. This role will focus on managing complex tax matters across the individual’s income, investments, business interests, and related entities. This position will manage complex tax compliance engagements, review work prepared by staff, analyze investment structures and financial information, and identify tax implications and planning opportunities. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical tax professional who can work independently while providing technical guidance to junior team members.
Key Responsibilities: Review complex individual, partnership, trust, estate, and gift tax returns. Review staff work for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Analyze Schedule K-1s from private equity funds, hedge funds, real estate partnerships, and other investment entities. Review partnership allocations, capital accounts, outside basis, distributions, debt allocations, and related tax matters. Evaluate the tax implications of investment activity, including gains and losses, carried interests, passive activities, and interest tracing. Analyze financial statements, trial balances, general ledgers, and supporting schedules. Reconcile book income to taxable income and identify appropriate tax adjustments. Review partnership agreements, operating agreements, purchase agreements, investment documents, and contracts to determine tax consequences and reporting requirements. Manage multiple complex engagements and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Communicate with clients, investment advisors, attorneys, and other financial professionals. Assist with tax notices, audits, examinations, and other federal and state tax matters. Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced tax professionals. Support tax planning initiatives and special projects as needed.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Active CPA license required. At least seven years of relevant tax experience, preferably within public accounting, a family office, or a similar professional tax environment. Strong experience with high-net-worth individuals, investment taxation, family offices, and partnerships. Experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and partnership tax returns. Strong understanding of investment partnership Schedule K-1s and related tax reporting. Experience analyzing financial statements and reconciling GAAP financial information to tax reporting. Knowledge of trust, estate, and gift tax matters. Ability to analyze complex financial and legal documents. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple engagements with limited supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compensation Base salary of $140,000–$180,000, depending on experience. Bonus eligible.
