About the role

Tax Manager | Cleveland, Ohio | Hybrid Imagine being a Tax Manager in public accounting and not having to warn your family that they'll barely see you between January and April. Sounds rather nice, doesn't it? Well, that's how this firm operates.40 hours a week. All year. Including busy season. Not 40 hours until things get hectic. Not 40 hours on paper but 65 in reality.40 hours. Which, when you think about it, in most industries it wouldn't be a remarkable selling point. But it definitely is in public accounting. They are looking for someone who enjoys the technical side, likes working with clients, and wants to have a influence on the firm. Just without the expectation that being a manager means being available at all hours. A couple of other benefits include 4 weeks of PTO and hybrid working. You might be perfectly happy where you are. You might like your colleagues, your clients, and even your current partners. But if every January you find yourself mentally preparing for 3 months of your life disappearing, perhaps it's worth seeing what else is out there. Because being good at your job shouldn't mean being punished with more hours. You don't need to have an updated resume. You don't need to be actively looking. And you certainly don't need to have made your mind up about leaving. A little curiosity is enough. Apply, and we can have a chat. Or call me, Bethan Kirby at Distinct North America, on 412 991 2084.I'm around from 6am EST if you fancy a conversation before work. After 5pm is fine too, although I may be slightly less lively. And please don't talk yourself out of applying because you don't meet every single requirement. The firms I work with want good people, not accountants assembled from an HR checklist. Worst case, we have a friendly conversation about your career. Best case, next busy season feels suspiciously like the rest of the year. Ref: INDPOM | 34493

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
