Job Description:
Job Title: Die Designer Shift: Night Shift - this will include a shift premium in addition to the base wage Job Summary The Die Designer is responsible for developing and detailing die designs used in the manufacture of sheet metal stamping dies. This role creates accurate 3D models and 2D drawings for blanking, progressive, transfer, and line dies using CAD software, ensuring that designs meet customer specifications, manufacturing standards, and formability requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Design complete stamping dies (progressive, transfer, line) from part print through final build release. Create 3D die designs and 2D detail drawings using CAD software. Collaborate with simulation, engineering, and toolroom teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability. Interpret customer part prints and specifications to determine die construction approach. Incorporate die standards, safety features, and shop best practices into all designs. Apply knowledge of materials, formability, springback, and press limitations to optimize die performance. Revise and update designs based on simulation results, engineering changes, or tryout feedback. Assist in design reviews, internal approvals, and communication with customers when needed. Ensure all design documentation, BOMs, and file structures are complete and properly archived. Support quoting and process planning teams with conceptual layouts and strip designs.
Qualifications:
Journeyman Card, Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, CAD, Tool Engineering, or related field preferred.3+ years of experience in die design for stamping applications (progressive and transfer dies preferred).Proficient in CAD software (CATIA, NX, or similar) and knowledgeable in GD&T.Strong understanding of stamping processes, die construction, and tooling materials. Ability to interpret customer specs, part prints, and simulation data. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with simulation feedback (Auto Form, Dynaform) is a plus.
Physical demands:
Primarily office/computer-based work with periodic visits to the toolroom or shop floor. Ability to sit, type, and view computer screens for extended periods. Must be able to wear PPE when entering manufacturing areas.
Work environment:
Manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
