Critical Facility Technician (HVAC/Mechanical)

Job DescriptionThe Critical Facilities Technician (CFT) is responsible for self-performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mission-critical mechanical and HVAC systems supporting a high-reliability data center environment. This role focuses on planned maintenance (PMs) with occasional emergency response, ensuring infrastructure reliability, safety, and compliance. This position is hands-on and task-driven, with no remote system monitoring or facility rounds. Technicians work from a monthly PM schedule and complete maintenance activities in-house.ResponsibilitiesPerform planned preventive maintenance (PMs) and unplanned corrective maintenance on HVAC and mechanical systemsMaintain and service equipment including chillers, cooling systems, water heaters, motors, pumps, and VFDsExecute monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance schedulesRespond to break-fix situations and urgent facility needsComplete work orders and documentation using CMMS and/or paper ticketsSafely use tools, materials, and equipment to complete assigned tasksEscort and coordinate with subcontractors as requiredFollow all safety protocols including PPE and Lockout/Tagout proceduresParticipate in training and demonstrate willingness to learn additional systemsQualificationsRequired QualificationsMinimum 3 years of HVAC, mechanical, or related technical experienceExperience in commercial or residential HVAC/mechanical environmentsWorking knowledge of refrigerants, mechanical and electrical systems, motors, and VFDsHigh School Diploma or GEDValid driver's license (company vehicle use required)Preferred Qualifications5 plus years of HVAC or mechanical experienceExperience in data centers or critical facilitiesTechnical certifications or trade school trainingStrong mechanical and electrical aptitudePhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to lift 50–75 lbsAbility to climb ladders and work at heightsComfortable working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and industrial environmentsWillingness to work overtime, weekends, or after-hours as requiredBasic Qualifications:• Must be 18 years of age or older • Must possess a valid, unexpired driver's license • Must possess journeyman HVAC license in the state, county or city jurisdiction in which work will be performed • Three (3) years prior experience required as an HVAC technician A good job for someone just entering the workforce or returning to the workforce with limited experience and education.
