About the role
Electronics Engineering Technical Supervisor Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is seeking an Electronics Engineering Technical Supervisor within the Engineering Division to provide technical and operational leadership for the Advanced Light Source (ALS) Electronics Maintenance group. This position plans, schedules, coordinates, and directs electronics technologists for electronics maintenance activities and personnel, ensuring effective support of ALS operations and preventive maintenance requirements. Responsibilities include oversight of staffing, budgets, equipment, and property; administration of Laboratory policies, procedures, and safety requirements; and management of personnel actions, performance, and development. The supervisor also establishes and improves work processes and procedures, recommends organizational and policy changes, and provides technical leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient electronics maintenance operations.

You will: Oversee all technical, administrative, and leadership operations of the group. Including participation in various administrative activities such as budget planning and control; personnel matters, including hiring, training and development, job performance standards, job performance reviews, salary administration, promotions, disciplinary actions, general employee relations matters; and other general administrative activities relating to group, department, divisions, and lab-wide operations. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Serve on various department, division, and Lab-wide committees as requested. Exercise strategic forward planning to fully meet scientific and safety goals of the Laboratory and to minimize the use of SBA (Staff Between Assignments) funds. Supervise, manage, and direct personnel and activities supporting equipment preventive maintenance, reliability, and electronics engineering objectives.
We are looking for: 3-4 years of experience in the field of electronic technology that includes supervisory and administrative capabilities. Ability to effectively manage and supervise electronics technologist personnel in a union environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels across LBNL. Demonstrated ability to independently perform and oversee preventive maintenance on complex electrical, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and electronic systems, while ensuring compliance with established maintenance procedures and electrical safety requirements. Knowledge of power supply systems commonly encountered in accelerator environments, including magnet power supplies, RF power systems, high-voltage power supplies and pulsed power supplies. Technical and administrative expertise in hazardous material handling and safety related work practices associated with the type of work performed by the group. Knowledge of LBNL, U.S. Department of Energy, State of California, and/or other regulatory agencies, including orders, regulations, and policies, regarding environment, safety and health.
