About the role

We are seeking an experienced Water Wastewater Treatment Practice Leader to provide technical leadership, strategic direction and operational oversight across a growing portfolio of water and wastewater treatment projects. This role will lead the development and delivery of innovative, practical and sustainable solutions for municipal, industrial and infrastructure clients, while supporting business growth and maintaining high standards of technical excellence. Key responsibilities will include leading multidisciplinary teams through the planning, design and delivery of treatment facilities; reviewing technical reports, calculations, specifications and drawings; and ensuring projects meet relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, health and safety standards and client expectations. You will contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, developing client relationships and supporting the preparation of budgets and delivery programmes. The role will also involve mentoring and developing technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing, and establishing consistent processes, tools and quality standards across the practice. You may also act as a senior technical adviser on complex projects, providing guidance on treatment technologies, asset performance, commissioning and operational optimisation. Applicants should have substantial experience in water and wastewater treatment, gained within a consultancy, engineering, contracting or utility environment, together with a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, chemical or process engineering. Professional registration or chartered status is desirable. You will bring strong knowledge of treatment processes, design principles, regulatory frameworks and project delivery, along with proven experience managing teams, budgets and client relationships. Excellent communication, commercial awareness and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across disciplines. This is an opportunity for a respected technical leader to shape a high-performing practice, support sustainable infrastructure outcomes and contribute to the delivery of complex projects that benefit communities and the environment.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
