About the role
Animal Health Veterinary Preceptorship Full-time Stipend/Housing: A $400/mo. stipend (for expenses) and free onsite housing in a shared living environment is mandatory during preceptorship. If required, transportation to and from training area will be provided. Veterinary preceptorships are available to senior level veterinary students for a 6 to 8 week period. Our preceptorship program emphasizes field immobilization techniques, preventive medicine, conservation-oriented research and an international perspective. Please apply early as our schedule typically fills up 18-24 months in advance. Selected person must provide proof of a negative TB test conducted within 30 days of arrival at Fossil Rim and proof of rabies vaccination (or adequate protective titer) within the year prior to starting the preceptorship at Fossil Rim. This is will be at your own expense.
Please note:
If you are selected, a background check will be done prior to your arrival. Fossil Rim is a drug-free workplace and a drug screen will take place the week prior to your internship. International students must have a J1 or B1 visa before arrival. Fossil Rim will not sponsor or assist with the visa process. Please apply through our website. WE DO NOT accept applications via email. The application requires a cover letter of interest detailing your background and careers goals, a Curriculum Vitae, the names of three people (with their phone numbers and email) we can contact as professional references, and a prioritized list of three 6 to 8 week blocks of time which would be feasible for you.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
