About the role

Laborer (Landfill) Picks up trash at landfill and highways leading to landfill. Mows grass and trims with weed eater. Assists in moving fences which serve as barriers to catch blowing paper. Cleans shop, break room and scales. Assists operators in digging out tracks on equipment. Directs traffic in the dump area when necessary. Processes waste tires. Performs freon recovery. Assists mechanic with equipment maintenance and repair. Performs all other related duties as assigned. City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Knowledge of general safety rules and equipment. Basic knowledge of mechanical equipment and operations. Ability to follow instructions and carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision. A valid Operator License with possibility to obtain a Class A License. Operates a variety of hand tools and other equipment; such as, shovels, chain saw and brush and weed control equipment. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions; such as, extreme heat, cold, wind and rain. Frequent walking over uneven terrain; as well as, frequent periods of standing, stooping, walking, and bending. Occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds or assisting in lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds. Work environment is frequently dusty due to landfill operations. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. High school diploma or equivalent required. No experience necessary. All applicants must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.
