Machinist job duties and responsibilities A machinist should expect to perform many different duties, which can include: Grind or cut plastic, metal or other materials. Produce parts for mechanical equipment such as motor vehicles or aircraft. Work in machine shops making small parts to help repair mechanical tools. Read and understand design instructions, making precise measurements for needed parts. Inspect machined parts and tooling in order to maintain quality control standards.
