About the role

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting andfinancial reporting activities while supporting the unique operational and job-costing needs of the Company’s manufacturing, shipyard, machine shop, andmaritime operations. This position helps ensure the accuracy of financialrecords, strengthens internal controls, analyzes operating performance, andprovides reliable financial information to support management decision-making.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, accountreconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and month-endadjustments. Lead or support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time. Analyze actual financial results against budgets, forecasts, and priorperiods; investigate and explain significant variances. Maintain accurate accounting records for manufacturing, shipyard, vessel, repair, and other operational projects. Monitor job costs, work-in-process, project expenses, labor charges, material usage, overhead allocations, and project profitability. Support percentage-of-completion, completed-contract, or other applicablerevenue-recognition calculations for long-term projects. Maintain fixed-asset records for vessels, machinery, equipment, vehicles, leasehold improvements, and major capital projects. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, includinginvoice review, customer billing, payment processing, aging analysis, and issueresolution. Perform bank, credit card, intercompany, payroll, benefit, and other balancesheet account reconciliations. Support payroll accounting, including labor distribution, payroll accruals, benefit expenses, payroll taxes, and union-related costs, when applicable. Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external audits, taxfilings, insurance reviews, banking requirements, and regulatory reporting. Maintain effective internal controls and recommend improvements toaccounting procedures, documentation, and financial workflows. Perform special projects, financial research, and other accounting duties asassigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting CPA required 5+ years of work experience (2 – 3 years public accounting preferred) Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including lookup functions, conditional formulas, and pivot tables Detail oriented; teamwork skills to accomplish goals and meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explainfinancial concepts to non-finance colleagues Experience working in a small and/or lean accounting
