About the role

Founding Product Designer | AI Startup | 4–7% equity New York or San Francisco · In personI’m hiring a Founding Product Designer to work directly with the founder and define how businesses interact with AI agents. The founder is ex-Google and ex-Spotify, and previously co-founded a YC-backed startup. Funding is secured and the first customer agreements are signed. The company is building AI agents to run operations across real-world commerce, connecting workflows across customer onboarding, inventory, administration and billing. The design challenge is making that experience clear and intuitive: helping business owners delegate work, understand what agents are doing, approve decisions and resolve exceptions. As the first designer, you’ll own the product experience from customer discovery through to the first shipped product. You’ll: Work directly with the founder and customers to understand how their businesses operate. Design how users assign work to agents, monitor progress and stay in control. Develop interaction patterns from first principles and choose the right interface for each task. Take ideas through user flows, prototypes and detailed product design, working closely with the founding engineers. Set the design direction, with scope to build and lead the design team as the company grows. I’m looking for a portfolio that demonstrates strong product judgment, interaction design and visual craft, alongside evidence of taking an ambiguous problem through to a product people actually use. You should be comfortable simplifying complex workflows, explaining your design decisions and working directly with customers and engineers. Experience with AI products or complex operational software would be useful. What matters most is your ability to create a thoughtful experience and get it shipped. Competitive compensation, with 4–7% equity being discussed depending on the overall package. If you want to shape a product from its earliest stages and have meaningful ownership in the company, message me here or email sam.hesketh@generativegroup.ai.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
