Job Description: Introduction: Founded in 1981, King Crane Service has remained committed to providing Northern California with economical, fully operated and maintained crane rentals, as well as bare rental crane services. As a sister company to Bigge Crane and Rigging Co., King Crane is part of a longstanding crane and rigging organization with extensive industry knowledge and resources. In addition to crane rentals and service, we offer engineered lift solutions, crane sales, trucking services, equipment storage, and complete rigging crews with gear. King Crane’s base of operations is located in San Jose, California.
Position Summary: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position works closely with operations, supervision, employees, and subcontractors to promote a proactive safety culture, reduce risk, prevent incidents, and ensure safe work practices across all job sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Program Management: Maintain company safety policies, procedures, and programs. Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Conduct routine jobsite inspections, audits, and field observations. Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Assist with development and revision of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and site-specific safety plans.
Incident Management: Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, vehicle accidents, and property damage events. Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans. Track corrective actions through completion. Prepare timely reports and communicate findings to leadership.
Training and Employee Development: Deliver safety orientations and ongoing safety training. Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety stand-downs. Assess employee competency and recommend additional training as needed. Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with company standards and contractual safety requirements. Assist with regulatory inspections and audits. Maintain safety records and documentation. Monitor required certifications, licenses, and training records.
Field Support: Provide safety guidance to project management, supervisors, and field personnel. Participate in pre-job planning meetings and risk assessments. Assist in development of lift plans, rigging reviews, and critical operation assessments when applicable. Support emergency response planning and incident preparedness activities.
Performance Monitoring:
  • Track and analyze safety metrics including: Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
  • Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR)
  • Near Miss Frequency
  • Vehicle Incident Frequency Rate (MVIFR)
  • Corrective Action Completion Rates
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly performance reports.
  • Recommend initiatives to improve safety performance.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of safety management experience in construction, crane and rigging, heavy civil, industrial, energy, or related industries. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices. Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities. Ability to influence and coach employees at all levels of the organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Preferred Certifications:
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)OSHA 500/510 First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel to multiple job sites. Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and access active construction and industrial work environments. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
