About the role

A growing financial technology organization is seeking a Technical Lead, Platform to lead the design, development, and evolution of its backend platform services. This position is ideal for a senior engineer who combines deep Python expertise with architecture and technical leadership experience. You will remain hands-on while setting technical direction for backend systems, APIs, and platform services. You will also mentor engineers, establish development standards, and work closely with technology and business leadership to turn requirements into reliable production systems.
Responsibilities: Lead the architecture and development of Python-based backend services. Design scalable, secure, and maintainable REST APIs. Make technical and architectural decisions for backend platform capabilities. Develop and review production-grade Python code. Design scalable microservices and distributed systems. Improve application monitoring, debugging, performance, and reliability. Mentor engineers and establish strong backend engineering practices. Partner with product, operations, and business stakeholders on technical delivery.
Role Requirements: 8+ years of backend software engineering experience. Expert-level Python programming skills. Deep understanding of core Python concepts, libraries, and development practices. Strong experience building production backend services and APIs. Experience with Django, Flask, and/or FastAPI.Strong SQL, database design, and data-modeling experience. Experience designing scalable APIs, microservices, or distributed systems. Demonstrated architecture and system-design capabilities. Experience providing hands-on technical leadership and mentoring engineers. Strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities.
Nice to Have: AWS experience including services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, or S3.Experience with SQLAlchemy or similar ORM technologies. Event-driven architecture experience. Lending, fintech, or financial-services technology experience. Experience within a smaller or growth-oriented technology organization.
