About the role

We have a growing SEC-registered investment advisor in Richmond is hiring a Tax Associate to prepare returns for high-net-worth individuals and families. The firm focuses on high-touch, relationship-driven wealth management, and this role suits a detail-oriented tax professional who wants to keep learning alongside an experienced team. It's a full-time hybrid position reporting to the Tax and Financial Planning Manager.
Position Overview: Prepare individual, trust, gift, and pass-through entity income tax returns, along with estimates and projections, for high-net-worth clients. Build workpapers and calculations that catch and resolve discrepancies before returns are filed. Research complex or unusual tax issues and share recommendations with the tax team and clients. Draft responses to inquiries from the IRS and other taxing authorities, and support the team on audits. Track tax law changes that affect high-net-worth individuals and keep the team informed. Build long-term client relationships through responsive service, following up promptly on missing information, corrections, and open questions. Keep client information accurate and current in the CRM and other platforms. Manage multiple engagements and deadlines, keeping the team updated on status and significant changes.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. At least 1 year of tax preparation experience. Flexibility to work extended hours during peak tax periods.
Preferred Qualifications: Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification, or currently pursuing one. Proficiency in CCH Axcess Tax, Bloomberg Income Tax Planner, Canopy, or comparable tax platforms.
