About the role

The Role: Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the delivery of a security-hardened deployment of an existing software platform inside a restricted public-sector cloud. The work is mostly backend engineering with some frontend, and involves close collaboration with machine learning and platform colleagues.
What You'll Do: Re-create an existing application stack in a locked-down government cloud, prioritizing security, stability and reliability. Design and implement data separation so each user can only view information appropriate to their authorization level. Keep backend services dependable and expand infrastructure capacity as more users join. Work alongside a machine learning engineer to migrate retrieval-based AI pipelines, benchmark models and bring down running costs. Stay aligned with the wider platform engineers so new capabilities reach the government deployment. Split your time roughly 70% backend and 30% frontend.
What We're Looking For: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience. At least 1 year of hands-on work with systems hosted in a highly regulated defense or federal cloud environment. Strong skills in React and Python, with a backend-leaning focus. At least 1 year in a startup setting; a mix of large technology company and startup experience is fine. Practical experience with AI services on a major cloud provider. Background in machine learning, retrieval pipelines and large language models, ideally at significant organizational scale. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related STEM field. Comfort leading client conversations and explaining technical ideas plainly to non-technical audiences. Ability to work on-site five days a week.
Bonus Points:
  • Familiarity with federal security and compliance frameworks and the authorization process for government systems. Location and Work ModelLos Altos, CA, United StatesOn-site, 5 days per week in office
  • Occasional travel to Washington, D.C.Full-time

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
