Job Overview: AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Radiation Therapy Medical Physicist (Full time, Part time or PRN)to support the Radiation Oncology Department at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), JBSA–Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring radiation treatments areaccurately planned, safely delivered, and properly monitored. The position works closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, and other clinical staff to support treatment planning, radiation dose calculations, equipment calibration and commissioning, brachytherapy, patient-specific quality assurance, and radiation safety.
Key Duties: Provide clinical radiation therapy physics, treatment planning, consultation, and equipment support. Plan and supportTBI, TSE, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, IGRT, and SGRTtreatments. SupportLDR and HDR brachytherapy, including prostate, gynecologic, and breast applications. Perform treatment planning using systems such as Eclipse, Oncentra, Variseed, Velocity, and ARIA.Perform acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and routine QA of radiation treatment equipment. Conduct daily, monthly, and annual physics testing according toAAPM recommendations. Perform patient-specific QA, portal dosimetry, weekly physics chart checks, and special/fetal dosimetry evaluations. Maintain and handle NRC-licensed brachytherapy sources and function as an Authorized Medical Physicist (AMP)as required. Work with physicians to develop, validate, and verify radiation treatment plans. Monitor treatment devices, dosimetry equipment, and radiation therapy imaging systems. Train clinical staff on equipment upgrades and participate in professional activities, continuing education, and research protocols.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degreefrom aCAMPEP-accreditedprogram in medical physics, radiological physics, health physics, or physics. No education equivalency substitution is permitted.
Experience: Minimum 3 years within the last 4 years of clinical medical physics experience, plus active clinical radiation therapy physics practice for at least 12 months within the last 18 months. Board Certification: Board certified in applicablediagnostic, nuclear, or therapeutic medical physics through the American Board of Radiology (ABR), or Radiation Oncology Physics through ABMP, as specified by the PWS.Licensure: Current professional Medical Physicist license in the State of Texas. Certification: BLSrequired under the base-contract requirement referenced by this PWS.Citizenship: Must be aU.S. Citizen.
Schedule: Regular duty is expected to average 40 hours per week. The department establishes 8–12 hour shifts; the PWS provides support windows of Monday–Friday, 0600–1600, as well as Sunday–Saturday coverage from 0001–2400based on department/mission requirements. Shifts include a 30 or 60-minute unpaid lunch, and the actual schedule is determined by the supervisor. Federal-holiday work may be required.
Work Environment: Hospital-based Radiation Oncology/Medical Physicsenvironment at BAMC, a DoD academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center. The physicist works with sophisticated radiation treatment and QA technologies including Varian EDGE, True Beam, Trilogy, Eclipse, ARIA, Elekta micro Selectron/Oncentra, Vision RT, and Sun Nuclear equipment. Health & Other Requirements: Must meet requiredphysical examination, TB screening, annual influenza/immunization, occupational health, credentialing, and training requirements. The position isemergency/mission essential, doesnot permit telework, and requires anactive Tier 1 (T1) background investigationbefore beginning services.
