Position SummaryAre you a strategic and creative federal tax professional who enjoys solving complex tax issues and advising mission-driven organizations? Deloitte's Tax-Exempt practice offers the opportunity to work with sophisticated nonprofit clients, including health care organizations, private foundations, public charities, higher education institutions, and other tax-exempt entities.Work You'll DoAs a Tax Manager, you'll provide federal, state, and international tax compliance and consulting services to nonprofit clients. You'll spend at least half—and potentially all—of your time supporting tax-exempt organizations and working directly with client leaders to address complex tax matters, manage risk, and advance their missions.You'll build and maintain trusted client relationships while advising on tax compliance, business restructuring, acquisition planning, exemption strategies, philanthropic and charitable giving planning, unrelated business tax matters, and tax controversy. You'll oversee complex projects involving multiple entities and affiliates, manage engagement workflow, coordinate team resources, and oversee engagement billing.As a people leader, you'll provide technical training, coaching, counseling, and career guidance to help engagement team members grow and deliver high-quality client service. You'll also collaborate regularly with Tax-Exempt specialists across the country and draw on Deloitte's broad network of tax, audit, consulting, and advisory professionals to support client needs. We serve nonprofit organizations and sophisticated donors working to create meaningful community and societal impact. The practice regularly collaborates with Deloitte's Consulting, Audit & Assurance, and Advisory professionals on multidisciplinary planning projects. Through Deloitte's Global Center for Excellence in Philanthropy, tax, audit, and consulting professionals provide integrated advisory and compliance support to funders and tax-exempt organizations shaping the future of philanthropy. Learn more about Deloitte Business Tax Services.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or other business-related field5+ years of experience in federal taxation with a strong emphasis on tax-exempt organizations (501(c)(3)s and 501(c)(4)s), including a combination within health care providers, health plans, private foundations, and other community organizationsOne of the following active accreditations obtained: Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPAIf not CPA eligible: Licensed AttorneyEnrolled AgentCertifications: Chartered Financial Advisor (CFA)Certified Financial Planner (CFP)Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2–3 days per weekAbility to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.Preferred:Advanced degree such as Master of Tax, JD, and/or LLMPrevious Big 4 or large CPA firm experienceExperience with federal tax compliance (Form 990 and 990-PF), tax analysis, and tax researchSolid understanding with respect to issues specific to tax-exempt organizations (unrelated business income, exemption planning, etc.)Strong verbal and written communication; listening, interpersonal, and facilitation skillsThe wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
