Join us to keep power systems safe, reliable, and on-spec Bring your hands-on field expertise to Powell and support customers across the US and Canada with commissioning, maintenance, and repair of AC/DC switchgear and power control rooms. What you'll do: Install and commission switchgear and PCRs; support in-house fabrication when between field assignments; lead small crews as needed. Execute acceptance/maintenance testing: insulation (megger), ductor (low resistance), Hi-Pot, torque, and mechanical/functional checks. Troubleshoot, test, and repair Powl Vac breakers and associated equipment. Complete timely documentation: weekly timesheets, service/repair orders, materials usage, and detailed reports. Communicate clearly with the Field Operations Scheduler and District Service Manager regarding plans and progress. Comply with SOPs and safety protocols; perform regular inspections of assigned vehicles and calibrated tools. Coordinate with project managers, customers, vendors, and labor partners in a professional, customer-first manner. Travel & schedule Up to 85% travel (local and domestic); overtime and some weekends required.
Minimum qualifications: 2+ years as a shop/field electrical or breaker technician. Knowledge of ANSI/IEEE C37 standards for breaker/switchgear design and manufacture. Understanding of device function numbers, conductor ampacities in switchgear, and air/surface creepage clearances. Capable of writing accurate reports and explaining basic project anomalies.
Preferred qualifications: Can read contactor and breaker schematics. Exposure to Hi-Pot and low resistance testing. Hands-on mechanical/electrical functional testing of breakers and switchgear. NICET Level 1.HUET/Offshore Survival Training (training available).NFPA 70E (training available).OSHA 10/30 (training available).Skills you'll use Bus and structural modification fundamentals. Electrical theory and control circuits (Ohm's Law; AC/DC basics).Assist senior technicians with maintenance, repairs, installations, upgrades, and retrofills on Powell switchgear and PCRs. Working environment & physical expectations Industrial environments across the continental US.Lift/move up to 50 lbs; work at heights over 10 ft; use ladders of all types; occasional scissor/bucket lift work. Extended periods of standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and sitting; close vision with ability to adjust focus.
