About the role
Managing Director of Tax | Northeast Ohio | $180K to $250K baseDirect Path to Partner and EquityReady to lead a tax practice without being measured by your book of business? Tired of watching the rainmakers get the credit while you keep the whole thing running??? Keep reading. I'm working with an independent wealth management firm in Northeast Ohio that added tax and accounting in 2025 by acquiring an established local CPA practice. They're now growing that side of the business, and they're hiring a Managing Director of Tax Services to lead it. Here's why this one is different. Wealth management drives the firm's revenue, not tax. So this role runs nothing like traditional public accounting: reasonable hours, no sales quota, and a culture that genuinely values "better over bigger."It also flips a dynamic a lot of tax leaders know too well. At many firms, moving up means trading technical work for selling. Here, the path to leadership runs through client service and building a strong team. You'd own the tax practice, shape how it grows, and have a real seat at the table with the planning and investment side. What you'd do Lead the tax practice and oversee preparation and review of federal, state, and local returns for individuals, trusts, gifts, partnerships, and S-corps Lead tax planning and consulting engagements and serve as the primary point of contact for tax matters Supervise and mentor tax staff and managers, providing technical guidance and performance feedback Track tax law changes and translate the implications for clients and the internal team Partner with the financial planning and investment team to deliver coordinated client solutions What you'd bring Bachelor's in Accounting and an active CPA license 8+ years in a CPA firm or financial services firm 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role Experience with small business owners (roughly $1M to $30M in annual revenue)Thomson Reuters Ultra Tax and Practice CS experience is a plus The details Base of $180,000 to $250,000 depending on experience Equity and long-term incentive opportunity for the right person Work out of any of the firm's three Northeast Ohio offices (hybrid flexibility)Qualified and interested? Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
