Job Title: Collections Operator-in-Training (Wastewater Operations)
Location: Hoboken, NJ
Schedule: Monday – Friday (Plus on-call rotation once trained)
Pay Rate: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour
Job Summary: We are seeking a Collections Operator-in-Training to assist in the operation and maintenance of our wastewater collection system. In this role, you will perform a variety of hands-on tasks, assist senior operators, and learn to maintain critical equipment and infrastructure. This is an entry-level training position that offers professional growth and employer-supported licensing opportunities.
Core Responsibilities: • System Maintenance: Assist with sewer cleaning, clearing, rodding equipment, and all physical repairs to the collection system.• Facility Support: Help clean bar screen facilities and perform weekly preventive maintenance on equipment.• Documentation & Data: Read and interpret sewer maps, blueprints, and manuals. Assist with keeping digital maintenance records using computer spreadsheets and CMMS systems.• Safety & Analysis: Follow instructions carefully, execute Pre-Task Plans, and maintain cooperative team working relationships.• On-Call Rotation: Once trained, participate in a weekly on-call rotation (Friday 3:30 PM to the following Friday 3:30 PM). On-call shifts include 4 hours of guaranteed overtime plus additional overtime for call-outs.
Position Requirements: • Education: High School Diploma or GED. • License Requirement: Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL B) at the time of hire.• Certification Goals: Must be willing and able to obtain the NJDEP Collections C1 License within the first two years of employment. (Training materials, the first exam fee, and continuing education maintenance credits are paid for by the company).
Preferred Qualifications: • Prior knowledge or experience in water/wastewater treatment, collections, or operations.• Familiarity with collection system tools, materials, and repair equipment.• Applicable OSHA training (e.g., Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tagout procedures).Physical & Working Conditions• Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to weather elements, loud noises, active machinery, confined spaces, and heavy equipment.• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders/scaffolding, work in tight spaces, and wear mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE).
