About the role

Food Safety & Quality Manager
Location: Wynwood, Miami, FL (on-site)
Reports to: COO Type: Full-time t Start date: January 4, 2027 Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 plus health benefits
About us: Wynwood Dog Food Co. has been cooking fresh dog food in our own Miami kitchen since 2015. That's more than three million pounds, with no co-packer and no middlemen. Most of what we make is Fresh Rx®, the country's largest selection of fresh therapeutic diets, formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and recommended by more than 300 veterinary partners. That means the dogs eating our food are often sick, including kidney, heart, and liver patients, and they're the least able to absorb a food safety mistake. We already test every batch before it ships. Now we need someone to build the full program around it, to human food standards.
The role: You'll own food safety and quality end to end. Senior food safety consultants are on retainer for guidance and mentorship, and you'll work with them directly, but you're the one executing. HACCP plan with validated cook and cooling steps as critical control points Environmental monitoring for Listeria, plus sanitation SOPs and training Batch release: sampling plans, release criteria, and disposition procedures Supplier approval and ingredient documentation to human food standardsAAFCO labeling, state feed registrations, and FDA compliance (21 CFR 507 and 117)Inspections, audits, and eventual GFSI certification
What you bring: Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field 3 to 5 years of hands-on food safety or QA experience in food manufacturing, with real time on the production floor Working knowledge of HACCP and FSMA preventive controls Environmental monitoring experience in a refrigerated, frozen, or ready-to-eat operation Clear technical writing, meaning SOPs a line worker can actually follow
Preferred: PCQI certification (we'll pay for it if you don't have it), thermal process validation, and Listeria control in a post-lethality exposed process. Authority to hold product This role has unilateral authority to hold any lot, stop production, or reject any ingredient, with no management sign-off required. We'd rather scrap a batch than explain a recall.
What we offer: Health benefits: we reimburse, tax-free, the individual health plan you choose, up to $6,000/year (QSEHRA)Training budget for certifications and industry conferencesA path to Director of Food Safety & Quality as we growPTO

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
