The position will play an important role instrengthening undergraduate and graduate economics education, producing academic research that advances knowledge, andcontributing to innovative academic and applied-learninginitiatives that connect economics with industry and the broadercommunity. The Department of Economics in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University invites applications for anine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Economics, beginning Fall 2027. You will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish clearlearning objectives, develop curriculum and instructional materialsthat accomplish those objectives, and provide students with thesupport needed to succeed. We welcome candidates who can contributeexpertise in economics and statistics and build productiveprofessional relationships within the community and across theuniversity. Job Summary: Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels usingvarious instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into thecourse design and engage with industry and local business communityapplied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities(e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)
Essential Functions: Meet expectations for research, teaching, and service as set forthby the department and college.
Job Duties: 1. Teaching: Teach two courses per semester (four courses peracademic year) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, withcourses offered in face-to-face, hybrid, blended, and fully onlineformats. Each course is three credit hours. Teaching assignmentsmay include, depending on the candidate's expertise and programneeds, Principles of Microeconomics, Labor Economics, Business Statistics, and related courses with the opportunity to developcourses in the candidate's area of expertise. The successfulcandidate will establish key objectives for classes, developcurriculum and syllabi, present course material through lecturesand learning activities, and answer students' questions and providesupport to help them succeed. 2. Applied Learning and Community Engagement: Foster appliedlearning in course design by developing meaningful opportunitiesfor students to engage with industry, local businesses, and thelarger community through applied projects, case studies, professional engagement, and other experiential learningactivities. 3. Research: Develop and maintain an active and sustainable programof academic research consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA)expectations and the requirements for tenure and promotion at the Barton School of Business. The successful candidate will beexpected to publish high-quality scholarly research in respectedand leading economics or related academic journals and advanceknowledge through sustained scholarly activity. 4. Service and Engagement: Contribute meaningful service to thedepartment, Barton School of Business, university, profession, andlocal community. Service may include active involvement incommittees, student mentorship, student recruitment and retentioninitiatives, professional organizations, outreach activities, andother activities that advance the mission of the department andschool.
Required Education and Experience: Terminal degree in direct field Teaching experience
Faculty Requirements: A Ph. D. in Economics from an accredited institution. Applicants who are at an advanced stage of their doctoral studies(ABD) will be considered if they provide strong evidence that alldegree requirements will be completed prior to the June 2027. Evidence of an established record of scholarly research or astrong research pipeline with demonstrated ability or potential topublish in high-quality economics or related academicjournals. Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, effective teachingin economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence mayinclude teaching evaluations, curriculum or course development, applied-learning activities, experience with face-to-face, hybrid, blended, or fully online instruction, or other indicators ofteaching effectiveness.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of economics and statistics. Ability to build professional relationships within thecommunity and across the university at all levels. Ability to provide instruction of curriculum to a variety oflearners. Commitment to collaborative processes and environments.
Preferred Qualifications: Research and/or teaching interests in labor economics and/orenvironmental economics. Use of empirical methods, econometric techniques, or data-intensiveapproaches to address applied economic questions.
