About the role

Software Engineer, AI & Automation | Systematic Hedge Fund | $400k+New York City (On-site)A fully systematic hedge fund managing over $20B is hiring a Software Engineer to design and build AI-driven automation software across the firm. This is a hands-on coding role: you’ll find where the firm’s processes can be automated, then write the internal applications, API integrations and data workflows that remove manual work at scale. You’ll partner closely with Investment, Technology and Operations teams.
What you’ll do:
  • Design and build automation frameworks and internal applications used across the firm.
  • Bring AI tooling into production workflows where it adds real value.
  • Build API integrations and data-driven systems that scale with a $20B+ systematic business.
  • Own projects end to end, from scoping the problem with stakeholders to shipping and maintaining the solution.
  • What they’re looking for
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: clean, well-structured code and solid object-oriented design.
  • Deep expertise in at least one object-oriented language of your choice, with experience building internal tools, automation systems, API integrations or data pipelines.
  • The firm is language-agnostic. What matters is that you’re an expert in whichever language you use.
  • The ability to work through complex systems and turn ambiguous problems into reliable software.
  • Financial services experience is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Why this role 20% of your time to work on any project across the firm.
  • The opportunity to branch out into other areas of the business over time.
  • Building at real scale inside one of the most technically demanding systematic funds.$400k+ total compensation.
Please note: the firm has a very high technical bar. While the team is leaning into AI, technical interviews are completed with zero AI assistance, so you’ll need to be confident writing and reasoning about code on your own..

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
