Assistant Director, Web Content
Location: Remote
About the Role:
The Assistant Director, Web Content leads large website content projects for Carnegie’s higher education partners. You’ll build the content strategy and writing plan for each project and manage a team of freelance writers. You’ll review their work and keep workflows and timelines on track. You’ll also keep up with industry trends and create content that shows off Carnegie’s expertise.
What You’ll Own
Large Content Projects
Build strategy and writing plans for large website redesigns
Manage workflows, timelines, revenue recognition schedules, and reporting
Work with other teams to build and improve processes over time
Build AI-assisted workflows that help the team work faster and deliver better content
Contractor Management
Onboard freelancers to new projects with clear creative direction and full documentation
Assign content and deadlines, and set clear expectations
Review all freelancer content, give feedback, and prepare final client deliverables
Build tracking systems for completed and remaining work
Copywriting
Write on-brand, search-optimized website content in Carnegie’s archetype language
Do keyword research and write metadata based on it
Thought Leadership
Write blogs, case studies, and white papers, and run webinars
Research new and emerging industry topics
Build and lead team trainings
What You Bring
Associate or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent life/work experience
5+ years of experience in professional writing and/or SEO and AEO
Strong editing and grammar skills, with close attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Experience with content management systems like WordPress or Drupal
Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and keyword research tools
Higher education marketing experience is a plus but not required
Strong communication and time management skills for a remote team
Comfort learning and switching between multiple technology platforms on a regular basis
Ability to work at a computer for long periods

This role shapes how colleges and universities show up online. You’ll lead the content behind major website redesigns, guide a team of writers, and set the quality bar for what goes to clients. You’ll also help grow Carnegie’s voice in the industry through your writing, webinars, and trainings, and help the team work smarter as AI changes how content gets made.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $70,000-$90,000. Your offer will reflect the experience, skills, and qualifications you bring.
