Lead Technician Position Overview:
The Heavy-Duty Diesel Truck Mechanic – Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, performing advanced diagnostics and repairs on Class 7-8 trucks and related fleet equipment, and providing leadership to the maintenance team. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality repair workflows while maintaining exceptional fleet uptime.
Schedule:
First Shift Lead Technician: Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 AM-6:30 PM; Saturday, 7:00 AM-3:30
PMKKey Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Leadership & Supervision Lead, mentor, and support a team of technicians in a fast-paced shop environment. Assign, prioritize, and monitor daily work orders to ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality completion. Provide on-the-job training, technical guidance, and performance feedback to team members. Support onboarding of new technicians, including safety training and tool/equipment orientation. Diagnostics & Repair Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel engines, emissions systems, aftertreatment systems, transmissions, drivetrains, suspensions, brakes, electrical systems, and HVAC systems. Utilize diagnostic software, including Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, Bendix ACom, WABCO, Volvo Tech Tool, DAVIE4, and other OEM platforms. Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets regulatory compliance requirements. Oversee complex repairs and assist technicians with escalated technical issues. Shop Operations Maintain safe shop practices and enforce proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and standardized operating practices. Ensure shop cleanliness, organization, and an efficient workflow layout. Monitor inventory levels of parts, fluids, and shop supplies, and assist with ordering as needed. Review and close work orders to ensure accuracy in labor hours, parts usage, and documentation. Fleet & Equipment Management Assist with scheduling preventive maintenance (PM) intervals to maximize fleet uptime. Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Communicate repair status updates, equipment needs, and downtime impacts to fleet maintenance leadership and external customers. Participate in warranty recovery processes and vendor coordination as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Accurately document all maintenance activities within the fleet management system (Fleetrock, TMT, or similar platforms).Monitor technician productivity and overall job performance. Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and OSHA standards. Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic working on Class 7-8 equipment. Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, air systems, electrical diagnostics, and aftertreatment systems. Experience leading a team or serving in a senior or lead technician capacity. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities utilizing OEM diagnostic software. Valid driver's license. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in a shop environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
CDL Class A or Class B.ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (T2, T4, T5, T6, T7, or L2).Experience using fleet maintenance management software.

Hourly Pay Range:
$35.00-$45.00 per hour Compensation will be determined based on experience, certifications, and shift assignment.
