Position Overview: Midwest Fire is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented General Assembler to support the preparation, sub-assembly, and final assembly of mechanical components used in our custom-built fire apparatus. Insurance: Medical (HSA contribution), Dental, Vision, Long-Term Disability, Voluntary (employee paid) Accident & LifeWhat You’ll DoSelect and utilize appropriate hand and power tools for the assembly of mechanical components Use various pieces of measuring equipment (i.e. tape measure, caliper, micrometer) Apply chevron and reflective material to chassis doors, bumper and body Mounting & fitting of components on body/tanks Mount cradle and body on chassis Finish body assembly to complete truck Pump testing as needed Assist in quality control of completed truck Read and interpret truck specification documents. Operate forklifts, cranes, and standard shop equipment safely. Follow company, state, and OSHA safety procedures at all times. Document non-conformance issues and provide technical feedback for continuous improvement. Assist with inventory management of parts and assemblies as needed
What We’re Looking For:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or college degree in electrical systems preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, technical manuals, drawings, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Basic Computer knowledge with the ability to perform programming tasks.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position requires standing on concrete for most of the shift and may include walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, crawling and working on or around trucks. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; team lifts are required for items over 50 pounds. The role includes frequent work near mechanical equipment and occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles and low-to-medium noise levels.
