You'll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.Job RequirementsServe as a contract planner / on-call staff for municipal clientsProvide day-to-day advisory support to city planning departmentsSupport or lead zoning code updates and development standardsContribute to long-range planning efforts (general plans, specific plans, policy studies)Prepare staff reports and recommendations for planning commissions and councilsProcess development applications (entitlements, site plans, subdivisions, use permits)Manage projects, budgets, and client relationships (depending on experience level)Skills/KnowledgeUnderstanding basic planning and zoning practice along with the ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulationsReading and interpreting site plans, floor plans, elevations, and sections. Ability to understand and apply dimensional scales as it applies to development reviewWriting and communicating effectivelyThe application of statistical, algebraic, or geometric knowledge to practical situationsWorking with computer hardware and software programs, which may include the Microsoft Office suite, the Adobe suite, Internet applications, GIS, desktop plan review software, and electronic permitting systems.Being able to positively interact with the other team members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clienteleAbility to operate independently in a client facing environmentDemonstrating specific attention to detailEducation/ExperienceGraduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, public administration, geography, architecture, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or a closely related field7+ years' experience working for a city or county planning agency (as staff or consultant) with experience processing moderately complex to complex development applications is required.Experience handling moderately complex to complex development applicationsCompensationSAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a comprehensive benefit offering.
