About the role

Electrical Hardware Engineer IIAbout ExumExum builds complex analytical instruments to redefine materials science. We develop the Massbox—the first commercial laser ablation laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (LALI-ToF-MS). Our fast-paced team integrates cutting-edge physics, high-performance hardware, and intuitive software into a sleek desktop instrument.
The Role: We are seeking a versatile Electrical Engineer to own the hardware lifecycle of our mass spectrometer instruments. You will take custom PCBA designs from concept to production, bridge the gap between electrical and mechanical systems, manage sub-assembly wiring, and guide our systems through rigorous global regulatory compliance. What You’ll DoPCBA Design: Own multi-layer schematic design, component selection, and PCB layout focusing on signal integrity, low-noise analog, and power distribution. Electro-Mechanical Integration: Collaborate with mechanical engineers to package electronics within tight physical constraints, managing thermal performance and structural placement. Harness & Wire Management: Design, document, and manage reliable internal wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and routing paths across complex subsystems. High Voltage Systems: Integrate, configure, and safely test off-the-shelf high-voltage power supplies and modules critical to ToF-MS operations. Regulatory Compliance: Drive hardware preparation, shielding design, and pre-compliance layout for global product safety and emissions standards (e.g., FCC, CE, UL/IEC 61010 or 62368-1).What You Bring
Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on hardware design experience, preferably working on complex laboratory, scientific, or medical instrumentation.
Tools: Proficiency with modern ECAD tools (KiCAD Designer preferred) and electrical test equipment.
Skills: Strong understanding of grounding architectures, EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, and standard wiring harness design best practices. Mindset: Highly collaborative, analytical, and comfortable troubleshooting physical hardware on the lab bench.
Location: On-site, full-time at Exum headquarters in Denver, CO.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
