About the role

Company Description: Idlewild is a language school for adults with locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. After more than 15 years of providing classes, we are about to launch our own textbooks and are looking to develop four Masterclass-style courses (beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, and high intermediate) based on our classes. To this end, we are looking for a scriptwriter who can produce ready-to-shoot scripts and storyboards, working from recordings of our classes.
Role Description: This full-time remote role involves writing clear, engaging Spanish-language video scripts aligned with instructional goals at different proficiency levels. The individual will collaborate with our educators and production teams. Tasks include adapting transcripts of our classes, drafting new lecture material where none exists to cover particular grammar topics, and ensuring that materials align with learning objectives and style guidelines. The role also includes researching cultural and linguistic topics, maintaining consistent tone and quality across content, and contributing ideas for new video series or learning modules.
Qualifications: Experience writing Spanish-language educational materials, with the ability to write clearly in Spanish and adapt tone for different learner levels. Experience teaching Spanish classes to adults and/or high school students. Knowledge of video production processes would be a plus, including working with directors, editors, and production schedules to align scripts with visual and audio elements. Excellent Writing skills in both Spanish and English, including grammar, clarity, and audience-appropriate style. Native proficiency in Spanish, with strong command of vocabulary, grammar, and regional variations; background in language teaching or instructional design is highly beneficial. Familiarity with pedagogical best practices, including scaffolding, assessment alignment, and learner-centered design for language education. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, Spanish, Film, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
