About the role

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law seeks a dynamic individual to lead its Business Office and Human Resources functions. Reporting to the Dean of ASU Law, the Executive Director is a member of the Executive Committee at ASU Law with responsibilities in three primary domains - strategic planning, financial management, and human resources leadership.Essential Duties:The successful candidate will be responsible for and have duties in the following areas:Preparing and/or leading the preparation of major operational and special budgets; preparing budget projections and analyses for ASU Law’s Dean and University financial management;Preparing and/or leading the preparation of financial and administrative reports;Analyzing and interpreting statistical, financial and management planning data for decision-making and strategic planning;Managing and controlling personal services budget, expenditures and revenues;Analyzing plans for staffing, capital equipment/improvement, supplies and service requirements;Collaborating with ASU Law’s senior leadership to enhance achievements relating to student outcomes, reputation, ranking, faculty and staff success, mandatory reporting, degree development, and other essential outcomes;Managing senior personnel within the HR and Business Office unit, including their professional development, management and training of staff, and performance reviews;Remaining informed and properly interpreting and applying pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by the university and other governing agencies;Developing long-range strategic plan for work unit and communicating the objectives to achieve goals;Fostering collaborative working relationships across ASU relating to financial and HR domains;Overseeing federal, state, and philanthropic grant accounting and management, including budgetary proposal approval, expenditure and personnel effort reporting, and related required documentation;Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential function of this job;Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department and/or law school.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including five (5) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.Desired Qualifications:Juris Doctor preferredCertified Public Accountant and/or Financial Management ExperienceHigher education management experience – preferably in law school settingDemonstrated skill in supervision and management practicesKnowledge of accounting and budgeting practicesExperience in grant accounting and management, preferably in the university environmentFamiliarity with state and federal laws pertaining to areas under managementKnowledge of strategic planningSkill in coordinating activities and establishing prioritiesSkill in both verbal and written and communicationWORKING ENVIRONMENT:Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts Evidence of effective communication skillsRegular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripheralsReceive and participate in regular review of completed tasks for achievement of established objectivesDepartment Statement:The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University is one of the nation’s preeminent law schools, focused on offering students a personalized legal education.
