About the role

About This Role: Arohata Prison - Department of Corrections - Information Evening - Porirua - Tuesday 27th October 2026 Kōtahi anō te kaupapa, ko te oranga o te iwi | There is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of people. Join us at a specific Arohata Women's Prison information evening, where you can learn and engage with staff from the Prison as they speak to you about their real-life experiences, and what the 'day-to-day' in the role of a Corrections Officer looks like. Arohata Women's Prison is one of three women's prisons within the network in New Zealand. At Arohata, we've been working hard to better serve the unique needs of women. Our Women's Strategy, "Wāhine: E Rere Ana Ki te Pae Hou," Women's Strategy 2021 - 2025 | Department of Corrections sets the stage for a gender-specific, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach. Do you have a passion for working with Wāhine? We recognise the women we manage have different needs to men and we have set an approach that will give our women the care, treatment, encouragement, counselling, skills and support required to shape better futures for themselves, their tamariki and their whānau.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
