Area Director of Sales & Marketing – Downtown Destination Portfolio
Location: Regional Downtown Core (Full-time, On-site)
Target Base Salary: ~$160,000 + Incentive Eligibility & Benefits Are you ready to shape the commercial strategy of an entire downtown destination? We aren't just looking for an executive to manage traditional hotel sales, we are seeking a visionary commercial leader to transform a thriving downtown core into the region's premier destination to stay, meet, dine, gather, and celebrate. As the Area Director of Sales & Marketing, you will lead the Sales efforts of a dynamic hospitality portfolio. You will also be part of the economic development team for a downtown area that includes restaurants, event venues, and unique guest spaces across the downtown market. You will build a centralized commercial platform, turn underutilized assets into revenue powerhouses, and collaborate with civic and community partners to drive destination-wide growth.
What You'll Do:- (The Mandate)
- Unify & Scale Commercial Strategy: Design and lead a centralized cluster sales structure across hotel and food-and-beverage assets, shifting the team from reactive booking to proactive, segment-led growth.
- Commercialize Underutilized Spaces: Identify untapped potential across hospitality spaces, lounges, and meeting venues to create high-value partnerships, events, and revenue opportunities.
Build Destination Energy: Partner with regional employers, civic leaders, tourism boards, and the local events ecosystem to launch high-impact activations (food, music, culture, and corporate).Drive Full-Funnel Performance: Oversee strategies across corporate, group, catering, association, SMERF, transient, local event, and restaurant demand.
Mentor & Lead: Coach and develop sales talent, set clear segment targets, and establish disciplined forecasting, prospecting, and conversion practices.
What You Bring:
Progressive Leadership: Demonstrated track record building cross-asset commercial strategy in hospitality, destination marketing, CVBs, entertainment districts, or multi-venue environments.
Commercial Acumen: Expertise spanning hotel group/catering sales, digital & field marketing, revenue management, and restaurant demand generation.
Relationship Builder & Influencer: Executive presence with a proven ability to align diverse stakeholders—from ownership and property teams to civic partners and local businesses.
Financial & Analytical Fluency: Strong skills in forecasting, ROI assessment, pipeline management, and data-driven pricing strategies.
Local Market Presence: Willingness to lead on-site in the regional market and participate in community and evening networking events.
Preferred Background:
Experience with major hotel brands (e.g., Marriott) as well as lifestyle or full-service hotels.
Prior experience in CVBs, Chambers of Commerce, downtown development authorities, mixed-use developments, or district marketing.
Hands-on experience commercializing food & beverage, venue, and destination programming.
Compensation & Application:
Target Base Salary: Approximately $160,000 (final compensation, incentives, and benefits tailored to experience).
