We are currently seeking an experienced Employee Benefit Plan Accountant to join our growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic group of professionals in an engaging and fast-paced environment.Job Responsibilities:Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements of employee benefit plans (including defined contribution (401(k), 403(b), etc.), defined benefit, and health & welfare plans)Assist in the preparation of Form 5500 and related filingsManage the audits of employee benefit plans and coordinate with clients and their service providersEnsure compliance with ERISA regulations and other applicable lawsPerform related testing procedures including reconciliation of reports, analysis of certifications and trust reports, sample selection procedures, participant data, contribution, distribution, and participant loans.Write comments on issues found and general recommendations of process improvements to clients at the end of the auditCommunicate with clients, auditors, and other stakeholders to resolve any financial issues during the auditMaintain accurate records and files for all benefit plan-related activitiesRequirements:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field2-7 years of experience in employee benefit plan accounting or auditingKnowledge of applicable accounting and auditing standards and compliance requirements of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Internal Revenue Code over retirement plansStrong attention to detail and analytical skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and Engagement Accounting softwareExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work independently and as part of a teamPreferred Qualifications:CPA designation (or progress toward obtaining CPA)Experience with retirement plan auditing and related compliance requirementsFamiliarity with auditing and accounting standards, specifically related to benefit plan auditsBLS is an Fifteen-Time Winner of the News Journal's Top Workplaces Award and an independent member firm of PrimeGlobal, one of the most expansive associations of independent accounting firms in the world.
