Role Description: The Director of Hotel Engineering is a full-time, on-site leadership role based at The Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC. This role oversees all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the property’s building systems, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces are safe, efficient, and well-maintained. Daily responsibilities include managing preventive and corrective maintenance programs, supervising engineering and maintenance team members, coordinating with vendors and contractors, and monitoring energy usage and sustainability initiatives. The Director collaborates closely with operations, food & beverage, and sales teams to support events, guest services, and brand standards, while ensuring compliance with local codes, safety regulations, and company policies. This position also manages capital projects, maintains accurate records, and contributes to long-term asset protection and budget planning.
Qualifications:
  • Strong financial and operational management skills, including experience with budgeting and cost control for engineering and maintenance functions.
  • Ability to collaborate with sales and marketing teams to support group business, events, and brand positioning through well-maintained facilities.
  • Background in training and developing engineering staff, with a focus on safety, technical skills, and service excellence.
  • Understanding of hotel operations, including coordination with food & beverage and other departments to support seamless guest experiences.
  • Significant experience in hotel or resort engineering leadership, with expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety systems, and building automation.
  • Proven track record managing capital projects, renovations, and preventive maintenance programs in a hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, OSHA regulations, fire and life safety standards, and sustainability best practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead diverse teams.
